Copied by Piaget?

A friend just showed me a photo of a new scrimshaw watch by Piaget. It's is a beautiful watch depicting a map of the Eastern Hemisphere nicely scrimshawed on a mammoth ivory dial. The only issue that I have is that it is a copy of one that I did a while back for Vineyard Time. Vineyard Time has been producing scrimshaw watches since 2003. Each watch is made to order and individually hand scrimshawed, so no two watches will ever be exactly the same. The Vineyard Time watch is hand assembled using a 316 stainless steel case and is made here in the US. It comes in two sizes. The larger 44mm watch has a fully automatic 21 jewel movement with a 48 hour power reserve while the smaller 36mm version comes with a quartz movement. These are very nice, unique watches so I kind of understand why Piaget would want to copy them. It's frustrating though, to see all of the blogs announcing it as unique and original when we've been doing them for years. At least it's a nice copy rather than a cheap knockoff. I suppose we should be flattered. Piaget has made a limited edition, $50,000 copy of our $1000 watch. It's too bad that such a huge company thinks it's OK to "borrow" ideas from smaller companies and issue press releases talking about how unique and inovative they are..

Maybe it's just me being sensitive. Here are some photos. What do you think? Did Piaget copy our watch?

Here is the new Piaget;

Here are some of the Vineyard Time map watches that I've done in the past.
